Viread is an antiretroviral medicine that treats infection caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or hepatitis B virus. Viread is a brand-name medication that is also known by its generic name tenofovir disoproxil fumarate.

Viread works as a nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor. It works by blocking the viral replication process so the virus can’t make copies itself.
