What is Edurant?
Edurant is a brand-name prescription drug used to control HIV/AIDS due to HIV-1 infection. HIV is a “retrovirus,” so the active ingredient in Edurant, rilpivirine, belongs to a class of drugs called antiretroviral drugs. Edurant is always used in combination with other antiretroviral agents.
Edurant prevents the HIV-1 virus from reproducing itself. The HIV virus attacks and weakens the immune system. Reducing the amount of HIV virus in the body helps prevent the opportunistic and life-threatening illnesses common to HIV/AIDS, such as cancer, pneumonia, and other diseases.
Edurant is prescribed at a fixed dose and taken as a tablet with a meal once per day.
