What is Genvoya?

Genvoya is an FDA-approved medicine used along with other antiviral drugs to treat human immunodeficiency virus-1 or HIV-1. It is a combination drug that contains elvitegravir, cobicistat, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide which work together to control the spread of HIV-1 in the body. The fourth medicine, cobicistat, is a pharmacokinetic enhancer, which is a specific kind of drug that works to increase the effectiveness of HIV medicines. The active ingredients of Genvoya constitute a complete HIV regimen and therefore it is not generally given with other HIV medications. Genvoya has been approved for the treatment of HIV in adults and children who are 12 years old and weigh at least 55 pounds. Genvoya is not an HIV cure.

Before taking Genvoya, you should tell your healthcare provider about all your medical conditions; especially if you have liver problems, and if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
