Synjardy is an FDA-approved brand-name prescription drug used along with diet and exercise to control blood sugar in patients with Type 2 diabetes. It is an oral medication that contains a combination of empagliflozin and metformin. Synjardy works by helping your kidneys get rid of sugar in the urine and lowering glucose production in the liver. It is used along with exercise and diet to improve blood sugar levels in adults. Note: Synjardy is not meant to treat Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Synjardy is available in 5-500 mg tablets, 12.5-500 mg tablets, 12.5-1000 mg tablets, and 5-1000 mg tablets. Synjardy should be taken by mouth, usually twice a day with meals. A lower dose may be used at the beginning of treatment to avoid immediate side effects.
