Is there a generic of Soliqua?

Soliqua is a brand-name drug. Insulin glargine and lixisenatide are the active ingredients contained in Soliqua. There is no generic version of Soliqua available right now.

What is Soliqua?

Soliqua is a prescription drug that is used to improve blood sugar levels in adults diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes causes the body to develop either insulin resistance or insulin deficiency. Insulin is normally produced in the pancreas and it is responsible for providing cells with sugar to create energy. In patients diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, their pancreas may be unable to produce the required insulin.

With insulin glargine and lixisenatide as its active ingredients, Soliqua manages blood sugar levels. Soliqua is a subcutaneous solution that is injected into the skin to help the pancreas to release more insulin to maintain low blood sugar levels. Soliqua also delivers blood sugar to the muscles in order to properly store glucose.

Before taking Soliqua, you should have a medical consultation with your healthcare provider to see if Soliqua is right for you. Soliqua is often recommended to be taken along with having a balanced diet and exercise. Your healthcare professional should provide you with medical advice on dosages and proper safety instructions.

If you have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, it is not recommended for you to take Soliqua. You should provide your doctor with a list of all of your medical conditions along with sharing information on any medications that you may be taking. If you have taken Lantus or Toujeo before, you should inform your doctor. These brand-name diabetic medications can harm your health when combined with other diabetic medications.

What are the side effects of Soliqua?

The most common side effects when using Soliqua are nausea, diarrhea, headache, weight gain, and stuffy or runny nose. If you experience an allergic reaction such as shortness of breath, swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat, you should seek medical help as soon as possible. Some life-threatening side effects are hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), kidney failure, kidney problems, heart failure, and hypokalemia. You seek out immediate medical help if you experience any of these side effects.

There are other side effects of Soliqua not mentioned here so speak to your doctor if you experience these or other side effects.
