What is Neuac?
Neuac (clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide) is a topical combination antibiotic used to treat inflammatory acne (pimples, not blackheads or whiteheads). Neuac works by stopping the growth of the bacteria that cause acne and removes the skin blocking pores. Neuac is available by prescription only.
Clindamycin belongs to a class of antibiotics called lincosamides, which block the ability of bacteria to produce proteins needed to reproduce (vitamin B9). Without folate, bacteria cannot make DNA and are unable to replicate.
Benzoyl peroxide is a common over-the-counter remedy for inflammatory acne. When it penetrates the skin, it creates an oxygen-rich environment that kills the bacteria. It also removes skin that blocks pores.
Neuac should be applied once daily at bedtime.
