What is Medrol?

Medrol is a prescription medication used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood disorders, severe allergic reactions, and immune system disorders. This medication is a type of corticosteroid that works by preventing the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation.

Medrol comes in the form of an oral tablet and is usually taken with food or milk. Follow the instructions provided on the product packaging when using this medication. Your doctor will recommend an appropriate dose for you based on an assessment of your current medical condition, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment. Do not use more or less of this drug than what was recommended to you by your doctor.

Do not stop using this medication without first consulting with your doctor. In some cases, your condition may become worse if you suddenly stop using Medrol. You may also experience symptoms of withdrawal such as weakness, weight loss, nausea, muscle pain, or tiredness. Your doctor will lower your dose slowly over a period of time to reduce the risk of withdrawal. You are more likely to experience withdrawal if you have been using this drug for an extended period or if you have been taking a higher than normal dose.

Do not use Medrol if you have a fungal infection.

Before you take Medrol, tell your doctor about all of the medical conditions you have, and all of the medications you take (including prescription and OTC medicines as well as vitamins or supplements). Tell your doctor if you have had any recent illness or infection.

What are the side effects of Medrol?

Medrol may cause side effects such as nausea, heartburn, vomiting, headaches, dizziness, trouble sleeping, increased sweating, or acne. Talk to your doctor if you experience any of these or other effects.

Tell your doctor if you have diabetes. Medrol may cause your blood sugar to rise which can cause or worsen diabetes. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of high blood sugar such as increased thirst or urination. If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar regularly and inform your doctor if your results are higher than normal.

Allergic reactions to Medrol are rare. Get emergency medical help right away if you have symptoms of an allergic reaction such as hives, trouble breathing, or swelling around the face, lips, tongue, or throat.

This is not a complete list of side effects. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice regarding other possible side effects or drug interactions.
