What is Roweepra?
Roweepra is a generic prescription drug that controls partial seizures in patients age 1 month or older with epilepsy, a nervous system disorder characterized by recurrent seizures.
The active ingredient in Roweepra, levetiracetam, is an anticonvulsant. Epileptic seizures are caused by the repetitive, overexcited, and abnormal firing of nerve cells in the brain, usually triggered by some stimulus. Roweepra prevents the repetitive firing of nerves and so reduces the brain's excitability. If a seizure starts in the brain, levetiracetam prevents the seizure from spreading to other parts of the brain.
Roweepra is manufactured by OWP Pharmaceutical, which is partly owned by the non-profit ROW Foundation. Although Roweepra is a low-priced generic, a portion of all profits from Roweepra sales goes to the ROW Foundation to support epilepsy treatment and medication availability in the undeveloped world.
