Azasan is a prescription drug that, in combination with other immunosuppressant drugs, prevents organ rejection after a kidney transplant by suppressing the immune system. Azasan also treats active rheumatoid arthritis, a condition in which an overactive immune system attacks healthy joint tissue.
Azasan is a branded generic drug. Usually, a generic drug is named by its ingredient. A branded generic drug is a medicine that is assigned a “name” (other than the name of the ingredient) but is priced as a generic drug.
The active ingredient in Azasan, azathioprine, works by suppressing the immune system so it will not attack the transplanted organ or the joints. Azasan costs $344.05 for 30, 100MG Tablet at full price. A SingleCare Azasan coupon reduces that price to $75.91 for 30, 100mg Tablet of generic Azasan.
Our price history metrics are calculated from aggregate prescription data that we receive from all participating pharmacies. This chart updates daily to show new price fluctuations. If a data point is missing from the chart, it is because we do not have enough data to produce a reliable figure.

If Medicare Part B does not cover Azasan, it may be covered by Medicare Part D. If you don't have Medicare coverage, consider using a SingleCare Azasan coupon for your prescription. Azasan is a branded generic drug with the active ingredient azathioprine. Generic azathioprine is also available from manufacturers such as Mylan, Zydus, and Sandoz, among others. The brand-name version is Imuran. Search the SingleCare website or app for azathioprine or Imuran if you need more information or savings coupons for other generics or the branded generic version of Azasan.
Azasan is a prescription immunosuppressant drug that is used with other immune suppressants to prevent organ rejection after a kidney transplant. Azasan also treats active rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a condition in which an overactive immune system attacks healthy joint tissue.
Organ rejection happens when the body's immune system attacks a transplanted organ. Immunosuppressive therapy is based on lowering the body’s immune response to prevent damage—to a transplanted organ, in the case of a kidney transplant—or to joint tissue, in the case of RA.
For a kidney transplant, Azasan is started at the time of the transplant surgery. Your healthcare provider will tell you how long to take Azasan. For rheumatoid arthritis, patients on a daily dose of Azasan should see improvement in 6 to 8 weeks. If improvement is not seen in 12 weeks, Azasan is discontinued.
Before taking Azasan, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, including if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including Rx and OTC drugs, vitamins, and supplements.
Azasan can increase the risk of skin cancer. When taking Azasan, avoid sunlight, including tanning beds. Wear protective clothing and apply sunscreen frequently when outside.
While taking Azasan, avoid people who are sick or have infections. Report symptoms of infection to your doctor. Do not receive a live vaccine (such as the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine) when taking Azasan. Before getting any vaccine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure it is not a live vaccine.
Azasan suppresses the immune system, so patients who take this medication are at a higher risk of infections. Azasan also puts patients at risk for cancer, particularly lymphoma, that can be fatal. This has mostly occurred in teenagers and younger men who also have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, although anyone with an inflammatory autoimmune condition can be at risk. Before taking Azasan, discuss risks and benefits with your doctor.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash, appetite loss, muscle pain, and mouth sores. Although allergic reactions are rare, they are still possible. Watch for rash, itching, trouble breathing, and swelling around the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and get emergency medical care if these symptoms occur.
Azasan can cause a serious brain infection that can cause death. Notify your doctor immediately if you have difficulty with speech, thought, vision, or movement. These symptoms may start gradually, but worsen quickly.
This is not a complete list of possible side effects. Consult with your prescribing physician and pharmacist about possible side effects before starting on Azasan.
