What is Zortress?

Zortress is a prescription medication used to prevent rejection of a kidney or liver transplant. After an organ transplant, the body’s immune system may attack the transplanted organ or tissue. Zortress works as an immunosuppressant to help lower the activity of the immune system. T

Zortress is available as an oral tablet that is usually taken twice daily with or without food. It is usually prescribed along with another drug, such as cyclosporine or tacrolimus, to help prevent an organ transplant rejection. 

Tell your doctor about other medical conditions you have or other medications you may be taking before starting Zortress. It is not recommended to take Zortress while pregnant or breastfeeding.  

What are the side effects of Zortress?

The most common side effects of Zortress include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, and swelling of the hands, legs, or feet. Zortress may also cause high blood pressure, low red or white blood cell counts, urinary tract infections, or increased cholesterol and triglyceride levels. 

Serious side effects of Zortress include an increased risk of certain cancers, such as lymphoma and skin cancer, an increased risk of serious infections, blood clots, and kidney problems (after a kidney transplant).
