Arthrotec is a combination-prescription medication that is used to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It contains diclofenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. The second active ingredient, misoprostol decreases stomach acid and replaces protective substances in the stomach that are reduced. The combination of both drugs helps to relieve symptoms of arthritis in patients who may develop stomach from taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Do not use Arthrotec if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. If you are pregnant do not use this medication as some ingredients can cause birth defects, miscarriage, premature labor, or rupture of the uterus.

Before taking Arthrotec tell your doctor about any other medical conditions you may have, including if you have a history of asthma or severe allergic reactions to NSAIDs, liver or kidney disease, heart attack, stroke, stomach ulcers or bleeding, or if you are scheduled for heart surgery such as a coronary artery bypass graft.
