Rocklatan eye drops contain two ingredients that work together to help lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It works by increasing the flow of fluids out of the eye, which helps lower pressure in the eye. Rocklatan is used once daily in the evening. Before using Rocklatan drops, remove your contact lenses. You can put them back in 15 minutes after administering the eye drops.
Common Rocklatan side effects include eye pain or redness. Also, changes to the surface of the eye may occur. These changes are unlikely to affect your vision.
Rocklatan eye drops can cause a gradual change in the color of your eyes, eyelids, or eyelashes, along with increased eyelash growth or thickness. Color changes may be permanent, even if you stop using Rocklatan.
Serious allergic reactions are rare. If you have hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, get emergency medical attention.
If you have any of the following symptoms, stop using Rocklatan drops and call your healthcare provider right away:
Eye swelling, redness, pain, crusting, or damage—these may be signs of an infection
Red, swollen, or itchy eyelids
Changes in vision
Severe irritation, burning, or stinging
This is not a full list of side effects and others may occur. Consult your healthcare provider for more information about side effects.
Although this medication has few drug interactions, there are some Rocklatan interactions to be aware of. Eye drops containing preservative thiomersal should be given at least five minutes apart from Rocklatan to avoid precipitation forming in the eye. Also, using two or more prostaglandin or prostaglandin analog drugs, including latanoprost (an ingredient in Rocklatan), is not recommended.
Rocklatan is not appropriate for everyone. Before using this medication, tell your healthcare provider about your medical conditions and medical history, especially pertaining to the eyes. People who should not use Rocklatan include:
Individuals who are allergic to netarsudil or latanoprost, or any similar drugs
Individuals who are allergic to benzalkonium chloride
Individuals with active herpes simplex keratitis (a corneal infection caused by the herpes simplex virus)
Individuals with active eye inflammation
Those with a history of herpes simplex keratitis or eye inflammation should consult their provider before using Rocklatan. Also, people with aphakia (no lens in the eye), people with lens implants, and people at risk for macular edema (swelling in a part of the retina) should consult their provider about Rocklatan use.
Various Rocklatan alternatives are available including combination eye drops and single-ingredient eye drops such as Xalatan (latanoprost). Consult your healthcare professional regarding which Rocklatan alternative is appropriate for you.
