Simbrinza is an ophthalmic drop (or eye drop) manufactured by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. It is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension, which means that there is high pressure inside the eye.
These eye drops have a combination of two medications: brimonidine and brinzolamide. Brinzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, which decreases the production of the clear fluid inside your eye. Brimonidine, on the other hand, is an alpha agonist that also decreases fluid production while increasing fluid outflow.
Simbrinza works by reducing the amount of fluid in the eyes and decreasing pressure in the eyes. Lowering high pressure in the eyes can reduce the risk of vision loss, nerve damage, and blindness. Simbrinza is not suitable for use in acute angle-closure glaucoma.
This medicine is available only with a doctor's prescription. Simbrinza eye drops are not recommended for children and young adults aged between two to 17 years old.
You may experience blurred vision, discoloration of the white part of the eye, and/or eye irritation or redness while taking Simbrinza. Other side effects include, but are not limited to, dry mouth/bad taste in the mouth, decreased vision, eye pain, sensitivity to light, and sore eyes. Tell your doctor if these or other side effects persist or worsen. Seek medical advice from an eye doctor before using Simbrinza to ensure that this may be right for you.
