Is there a generic of Adderall XR?

Adderall XR is a brand-name prescription drug that is manufactured by Takeda Pharmaceuticals. It contains an extended-release form of an amphetamine salt combination. A generic version of Adderall XR is available and may be produced by various manufacturers.

What is Adderall XR?

Adderall XR is an FDA-approved stimulant used to treat ADHD. It contains an extended-release form of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine salts. As a stimulant, Adderall XR is believed to work by increasing the levels of certain neurotransmitters, such as dopamine and norepinephrine, in the brain. These neurotransmitters or chemicals are believed to be involved with the development of ADHD.

Unlike regular immediate-release Adderall tablets, Adderall XR is an extended-release capsule. It is typically taken once daily. However, the dosage can vary depending on the individual’s age, medical condition, and response to treatment.

Adderall XR should only be used as prescribed by a healthcare provider. Tell your healthcare provider about any medical conditions you have and other medications you take, including prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications, before starting treatment with Adderall XR.

What strengths of Adderall XR are available?

Adderall XR comes as an extended-release oral capsule in strengths of 5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg, 25 mg, and 30 mg.

What are the side effects of Adderall XR?

The most common side effects of Adderall XR include headache, upset stomach, decreased appetite, insomnia, weight loss, dry mouth, nervousness, mood swings, fast heartbeat, and dizziness. Other possible side effects may include nausea, agitation, constipation, and changes in libido, among others.

Serious side effects of Adderall XR may include seizures, visual changes, and slowed growth (in children). The risk of serious side effects may be increased if you have a history of certain medical problems. Consult your doctor if you have a history of drug abuse, heart problems, or any other medical conditions before using Adderall XR. Stimulants have caused heart attacks, strokes, and sudden death in patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, and heart defects.

Adderall XR can negatively interact with other medications, such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Do not use Adderall XR if you have used an MAO inhibitor within the past 14 days. Tell your healthcare provider if you take any prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications before starting treatment with Adderall XR.

Adderall XR is a Schedule II controlled substance, meaning it carries a risk for dependence and abuse. Adderall XR should only be used with a prescription from a healthcare provider.

Taking higher doses for a prolonged time may result in withdrawal symptoms after discontinuing the medication, such as fatigue, depression, and insomnia. Talk with your doctor before stopping the use of Adderall XR.

Adderall XR can potentially harm an unborn baby and should not be used by pregnant women. This drug may also be absorbed into the breast milk, which may affect breastfeeding babies. Consult a healthcare provider before taking Adderall XR if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Contact your healthcare provider for medical advice about other potential side effects, as this is not a complete list.

What is the difference between Adderall and Adderall XR?

Adderall and Adderall XR contain a combination of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine salts. However, Adderall is an immediate-release medication, while Adderall XR is an extended-release medication. Adderall XR can be taken once daily since the drug is slowly released over time. On the other hand, regular Adderall has to be taken multiple times per day to continue managing symptoms. In addition, Adderall XR is available as an oral capsule, while Adderall is available as an oral tablet.

What are standard Adderall XR dosages?

The recommended daily dose of Adderall XR depends on the person’s age and an assessment of their overall health condition. Children and adolescents (aged 6 to 17 years old) are usually started on a dosage of 10 mg once daily in the morning, while adults are usually started on a dosage of 20 mg once daily in the morning. People with kidney problems may be started on a lower dosage than normal.

The lowest effective dosage is usually recommended. However, the dosage may be adjusted depending on treatment response and side effects.

Adderall XR can be taken with or without food. If a child is unable to swallow an Adderall XR capsule, the contents may be opened and sprinkled over a spoonful of applesauce. Consult a healthcare provider for the proper dosage and administration instructions for your treatment.

Is Adderall XR addictive?

Adderall XR is a Schedule II controlled substance, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). It has a high potential for dependence and abuse, which may lead to addiction.

An addiction to Adderall XR may increase the risk of an overdose. Signs and symptoms of an overdose include restlessness, tremors, confusion, hallucinations, muscle pain, rapid breathing, and agitation, among others. An overdose may also cause heart rhythm problems, high blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. In severe cases, an overdose can lead to seizures, coma, and even death.

Adderall XR should only be used under the guidance of a healthcare provider.

Is Adderall XR safe in pregnancy?

There is not enough scientific data to conclude that Adderall XR is safe or harmful during pregnancy. However, studies have shown that amphetamines may cause harmful effects, including premature delivery and low birth weight. The use of Adderall XR during pregnancy should generally be avoided. Consult a healthcare provider before taking Adderall XR if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
