Fareston is a nonsteroidal antiestrogen used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women. This prescription drug works by blocking the effects of estrogen in the breast tissue, thereby slowing or stopping the growth of cancerous cells.
Before using Fareston inform your doctor if you have hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium in your blood), endometrial hyperplasia (overgrowth of cells lining the uterus), have long QT syndrome or family members with long QT syndrome, bone cancer, or if you have ever had a blood clot.
Fareston can harm an unborn baby so if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant you should not use Fareston. While taking Fareston you should avoid grapefruit, grapefruit juice, and herbal supplements that contain St. John's wort.
