It works by stimulating the testicles to release testosterone in men and stimulates the ovaries to release estrogen in women.
This medication comes in the form of a subcutaneous implant. It is administered by a healthcare professional by injection under the skin of the lower abdomen below the navel. This implant slowly releases hormones into the body and will be completely absorbed into the body over weeks or months. Read the information provided in the product leaflet and check with your doctor or pharmacists for additional questions you may have about this medication.
A 3.6-milligram syringe is usually used once every four weeks and a 10.6-milligram syringe may be injected every 12 to 13 weeks. Your doctor will recommend an appropriate dose for you based on an assessment of your current medical condition, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment.
