What is Soltamox?
Soltamox is a brand-name prescription drug that treats hormone receptive (HR+) metastatic breast cancer in premenopausal and postmenopausal women. Soltamox is also used to treat stage 0 ductal carcinoma, a cancer of the milk ducts in the breast. It is also given to women to prevent breast cancer.
Hormone receptive breast cancer is a type of breast cancer in which the cancer cells respond to estrogen, a female hormone, by dividing and producing new cancer cells. The active ingredient in Soltamox, tamoxifen citrate, prevents estrogen from attaching to the tumor cells and signaling them to divide.
Soltamox is taken as an oral solution once or twice daily. The dose, schedule, and duration will depend on the condition being treated.
