Brovana is an FDA-approved long-acting prescription bronchodilator that is used to open the airways of the lungs in people who have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. The active ingredient is arformoterol tartrate which works by relaxing the muscles in your airways to improve breathing. Brovana is not meant to be used during an acute asthma attack or a COPD attack. It will not work fast enough to treat an attack. You should only use a fast-acting rescue inhalation medicine during an attack as instructed by your doctor.
Brovana comes in the form of an inhalation solution and should only be used as directed by your doctor. This solution is only meant to be used with an inhalation device known as a standard jet nebulizer machine connected to an air compressor. This machine turns the medication into a fine mist that can be inhaled into your lungs through your mouth. It should not be mixed with other medicines while being used in the nebulizer.
