What is Primatene Mist?
Primatene Mist is an FDA-approved over-the-counter inhaler used to provide temporary relief of mild symptoms of intermittent asthma such as wheezing, tightness of the chest and shortness of breath. The active ingredient in Primatene Mist is epinephrine. Primatene Mist works by relaxing the muscles of the airways to allow you to breathe.
Primatene Mist comes in the form of epinephrine inhalation aerosol suspension. This bronchodilator releases 0.125 mg of aerosol per spray. Remove the red cap, shake this device, and spray into the air one time to mix the medicine. You may then place the mouthpiece in your mouth and inhale the medicine. The mist in this medication is propelled by hydrofluoroalkane (HFC), as opposed to the previously used chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) which were harmful to the environment.
