What is Striverdi Respimat?
Striverdi Respimat is a brand-name prescription drug that is taken once a day to keep airways open in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
The active ingredient in Striverdi Respimat, olodaterol, is a bronchodilator. It works by attaching to proteins on the lung cells which then “signal” the lung tissues to relax the muscles in the lungs. As the muscles in the lung relax, the bronchi, or airways, get wider, which allows more air to pass through.
The effects of Striverdi Respimat on the airways typically last 24 hours, so Striverdi Respimat only needs to be used once per day to keep airways open for patients with COPD. Striverdi Respimat is not used for asthma or to relieve breathing crises due to COPD.
Striverdi Respimat is administered using a fixed-dose inhaler. The usual dose is two inhalations (two metered doses) taken at the same time each day, usually in the morning. No more than two inhalations should be taken in a 24-hour period. The effects of Striverdi Respimat should be experienced in about one minute after inhalation.
What are the side effects of Striverdi Respimat?
The most common side effects of Striverdi Respimat include, but are not limited to, infections (urinary tract infections and upper respiratory tract infections), bronchitis, pneumonia, sore throat, cough, runny nose, diarrhea, joint pain, fever, and rash. Long-term use of Striverdi Respimat increases the risk of severe or fatal asthma. Allergic reactions to Striverdi Respimat are rare but watch for rashes, hives, or swelling. Discontinue use of Striverdi Respimat if you experience an allergic reaction.
