What is Tricor?

Tricor is a prescription drug that contains fenofibrate as the active ingredient. It helps reduce fats (triglycerides) in the blood. Lowering triglyceride levels may help reduce the risk of inflammation and disease in the pancreas (pancreatitis). Tricor can also help reduce LDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels.

Tricor works by activating an enzyme called lipoprotein lipase which helps break down triglycerides. The decrease in triglyceride levels helps alter the size of LDL cholesterol particles so they can be broken down more rapidly.

Tricor is typically recommended to be taken in addition to an exercise and diet plan. It is available as an oral tablet that is taken daily with food. This medication should only be taken as prescribed by a healthcare provider. Tell your healthcare provider about any medical conditions you have or other medications you are taking before starting treatment.

What are the side effects of Tricor?

Common side effects of Tricor include but are not limited to headache, back pain, nausea, constipation, stomach discomfort, and a runny or stuffy nose. Tricor may also cause abnormal liver enzyme levels, which may need to be monitored throughout treatment.

Serious side effects may include muscle pain (myopathy) or the breakdown of muscle tissue (rhabdomyolysis). Contact your healthcare provider if you experience muscle pain while taking Tricor.

Allergic reactions may occur while taking Tricor. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe rash, itching, or trouble breathing.
