What is Se-Tan Plus?
Se-Tan Plus is a brand-name prescription B-vitamin, iron, and mineral supplement and iron supplement with vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5 B6, B9, and B12. Se-Tan Plus is prescribed to either prevent or treat folate deficiency and iron-deficiency anemia due to blood loss, menstruation, puberty, convalescence, or age. Se-Tan Plus is also prescribed to treat iron and vitamin C deficiency, as well as meet the increased need for B vitamins due to stress or illness.
In addition to B-complex vitamins, Se-Tan Plus includes vitamin C, iron (ferrous fumarate), and minerals (zinc, copper, and manganese).
All the B vitamins (called B-complex vitamins) are needed by the body to convert proteins, fats, and carbohydrates into energy. Iron is a critical component in red blood cells and is responsible for carrying oxygen to all the cells and tissues in the body. Having too little iron in the body causes anemia, a shortage of healthy red blood cells.
Also important to the body's production of red blood cells are vitamins B6, B9, and B12. Vitamin B9 (folate) is particularly important in the processes that produce red blood cells. A shortage of vitamin B9 leads to a particular type of anemia called folate-deficiency anemia.
Se-Tan Plus is taken as a capsule once daily between meals.
