What is Zestoretic?
Zestoretic (lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide) is a combination blood pressure drug that relaxes the blood vessels and rids the body of extra water. Combined, these effects reduce blood pressure. Zestoretic is prescribed to patients with high blood pressure who have not succeeded with a single type of drug.
Lisinopril belongs to a class of blood pressure medications called ACE inhibitors, which lower blood pressure by blocking the action of a protein (angiotensin) that causes muscles in the blood vessels to contract and tighten the blood vessels. Lisinopril causes the blood vessels to lose tension, so they get wider, and blood pressure goes down.
Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a class of drugs called diuretics (also called “water pills”) that increase the amount of salt and water in your urine. Lowering the amount of water in the bloodstream lowers the pressure within the blood vessels.
Zestoretic is taken as a tablet once daily.
