What is Novolin R?
Novolin R (human insulin) is a short-acting type of insulin. Insulin is a peptide hormone that assists in controlling blood glucose levels in people with diabetes mellitus. Novolin R can be used in people with both type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Novolin R usually begins to work within approximately 30 minutes after it has been administered, peaks in 2 or 3 hours, and then continues to work for up to 8 hours after.
Novolin R is a man-made insulin product and acts in is the same as human insulin. It replaces the insulin that your body would make under normal circumstances. It works by helping blood glucose get into cells so that your body gets the amount of energy it needs. Normally, this medication is used in combination with a medium- or long-acting insulin product. It may also be used alone or with other diabetes drugs like metformin or dulaglutide.
This prescription drug should be used with a proper diet and exercise regime to help control high blood glucose in people with diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems.
