What is Activella?

Activella is a drug that combines estradiol and norethindrone to treat symptoms of menopause in women. Symptoms can include hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and changes in the vagina. These symptoms are caused by the body making less estrogen. This drug may also be used to prevent osteoporosis (bone loss) in menopausal women.

Estradiol, a form of estrogen, is a female sex hormone that helps with menopausal hot flashes and night sweats. It also eases vaginal symptoms of menopause, such as dryness, itching, burning, and discomfort with intercourse. While norethindrone, a form of progestin, helps to reduce the risk of cancer of the uterus which can be caused by using estrogen.
