What is Xepi?
Xepi is a quinolone antibiotic that is used to treat a skin infection called impetigo. Impetigo or school sores is a highly infectious skin infection that mainly affects infants and young children. Xepi works by preventing the spread of the bacteria that cause this skin infection. Xepi can be used by adults and children who are two months or older.
Do not use Xepi if you are allergic to any of its ingredients including ozenoxacin.
Before using Xepi you should tell your doctor about any medical conditions you may have. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should tell your doctor. If you are using any medications including prescription medicines, over-the-counter drugs, and supplements, you need to tell your healthcare provider.
Only use Xepi according to your doctor's directions. Xepi is a topical medication and should not be taken orally. Xepi is used by applying a layer of this cream to the affected area of the skin. You should always wash your hands after using Xepi unless the affected area is your hand. You can cover the treated area with a fresh bandage or gauze dressing. It is recommended that you use Xepi for the prescribed time, even if your symptoms may improve. Do not skip doses as you may be at risk of increasing your infection. Contact your doctor if your symptoms have not improved after three days.
What are the side effects of Xepi?
Common side effects of Xepi include skin redness, itching, dryness, peeling, or flaking where this medication was applied.
If you have signs of a new skin infection you should call your doctor right away.
