It can be used to treat impetigo caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. It can also be used to treat or prevent Staph infections in the nose.

Mupirocin comes in the form of a 2% topical cream and a 2% topical ointment. Talk to your doctor or healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate form and dosage. Your doctor or healthcare provider will prescribe a dosage based on your current medical condition and the infection being treated. The area may be covered with a gauze dressing as desired. Consult a healthcare provider if signs or symptoms of the infection do not improve within three to five days.

When applying Mupirocin to the nose, press gently on the sides of your nose for a minute. This will help to thoroughly spread the ointment inside your nose.
