What is Take Action?
Take Action is an emergency contraception pill. Take Action contains levonorgestrel, a progestin, which can prevent pregnancy in women who have had unprotected sex or who have used contraceptive devices that have failed.
Levonorgestrel both prevents or delays ovulation (the release of an egg by the ovaries) and alters the uterine lining so that a fertilized egg is unable to attach to the uterus.
Take Action is taken as a single dose within 72 hours of unprotected sex. Take Action's effectiveness as a contraceptive fades rapidly after the first 24 hours following unprotected sex.
What are the side effects of Take Action?
Common side effects of Take Action include but are not limited to menstrual changes, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache, fatigue, and dizziness. Allergic reactions are rare, but include rash, itching, and trouble breathing.
If you vomit within two hours after taking this medication, ask your healthcare provider if you should take another dose.
Take Action is not to be used as regular birth control. It will not work if you are already pregnant. Take Action will not prevent sexually transmitted infections.
