What is Ella?

Ella is an emergency contraceptive used by women within five days after having sexual intercourse to prevent pregnancy. It works by stopping or delaying the release of an egg from the ovary.Ella makes it more difficult for a fertilized egg (zygote) to attach itself to the uterus. Ella belongs to the progesterone receptor modulators drug class which are commonly used for emergency contraception. Its active ingredients include ulipristal acetate.

This women's prescription drug is not to be used regularly as a daily/weekly/monthly birth control. Ella is not an abortion pill and it is not to be used to terminate an existing pregnancy.
