The most common side effects of Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim are nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Allergic skin reactions are also common and include hives and rashes.
Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim can cause severe but rare side effects: anemia (low red blood cell counts), hepatitis (inflammation of the liver), and severe allergic reactions, which include severe skin reactions such as toxic epidermal necrolysis and Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Seek medical help immediately if you experience symptoms or signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, swelling of the throat or face, and trouble breathing.
