What is Seysara?

Seysara is a tetracycline-class drug that is used to treat moderate to severe acne vulgaris in children and adults. Seysara is a once-daily oral tablet that can be used in patients who are at least nine years old. This medication will not treat viral infections like the flu or common cold.

You should not use Seysara if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or other antibiotics like doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline, or tigecycline. You should only use Seysara as prescribed by your healthcare provider. You can take this medication with or without food; be sure to take it with plenty of liquid. Do not stop taking this medication before the prescribed length of time, even your acne is  better, as skipping doses can increase your risk of bacteria that is resistant to Seysara. Ask your prescriber when you can stop taking Seysara. 

Before using Seysara, you should tell your doctor about other medical conditions you may have and medications you are taking including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements. 

Seysara increases the possibility of sunburn, so try to avoid the sun while taking this medicine. If you are in the sun, wear protective clothing and a hat as well as sunscreen, and minimize time in the sun. Also, while taking Seysara, drink plenty of fluids to lower the risk of esophageal problems. 

If you are pregnant or become pregnant while using Seysara you need to tell your doctor. Taking this medication during your pregnancy can affect your unborn baby's teeth and bone development. Seysara can also cause permanent tooth discoloration in your baby later in life. You should not breastfeed while using this medication as it can pass through your breast milk and can affect your baby's teeth and bone development.

What are the side effects of Seysara?
