It works by relaxing blood vessels which allows blood to flow more easily. Nifedipine should be taken regularly for maximum effectiveness. It is not meant to be used to treat sudden attacks of chest pain.
This medication comes in the form of an oral tablet that is usually taken three times a day with or without food or as instructed by your healthcare provider. This medication should be swallowed whole. Do not chew, crush, or break the capsule. Your doctor may start you on a small dose of this medication and slowly increase it over time to avoid the risk of side effects.
