What is Verelan?
Verelan is an extended-release prescription drug that reduces blood pressure (antihypertensive) for patients with high blood pressure (hypertension). Verelan relaxes the muscles of the heart and dilates blood vessels.
The active ingredient in Verelan, verapamil, belongs to a class of blood pressure reducing medications called calcium channel blockers. These drugs work by weakening the electrical signals in the heart, which then causes the heart to beat with less force, lowering the pressure created by the heartbeat. Calcium channel blockers also weaken electric signals in the muscles that keep blood vessels tight. verapamil relaxes and increases the width of blood vessel walls, reducing blood pressure.
Verelan is taken as a tablet once per day in the morning. Verelan will show results within the first week.
