Leukine is a branded prescription made by Partner Therapeutics. The ingredient in Leukine is Sargramostim, but there is no generic available at this time.
Leukine helps your body produce white blood cells, which help your body fight against infection. Leukine is used in adults and children who are at least 2 years old. It is used to help prevent serious infections in patients with certain conditions such as leukemia, bone marrow transplant, and pre-chemotherapy blood cell collection. Leukine can also lower the risk of death from bone marrow suppression after radiation exposure. Leukine should not be used within 24 hours before receiving chemotherapy or radiation or within 24 hours after chemotherapy. Do not use Leukine if you are allergic to sargramostim, filgrastim, or yeast. Leukine may contain an ingredient that causes serious side effects or death in very young or low birthweight babies. Before taking Leukine, tell your doctor about any medical conditions you have as well as your medical history and other medications you take.
Common side effects of Leukine include:
Difficulty breathing
Swelling
Stomach problems: pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Appetite and weight loss
Difficulty urinating

Leukine can also cause a number of serious side effects. Symptoms of an allergic reaction (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling) require emergency medical attention. If you have a reaction during the injection (such as dizziness, sweating, nausea, shortness of breath, chest tightness, fast heartbeat), notify your provider right away. Also notify your doctor right away if you have any of the following symptoms:
Stuffy/runny nose
