Invega Sustenna is an FDA-approved antipsychotic medication used in the treatment of schizophrenia in adults. It can also be used with other medicines to treat schizoaffective disorder in adults. This medication works by restoring the balance of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. Invega Sustenna is a part of a class of drugs known as atypical antipsychotics.
This medication comes in the form of an injectable intramuscular suspension and is available in a variety of strengths. Your doctor will decide on a dose that is appropriate for you based on your medical condition and your body's response to the medication. Invega Sustenna is usually injected into the muscle. This application should only be done by your healthcare professional. In most cases, Invega Sustenna is given once per month. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed as this medication can pass into your breast milk.
Your doctor will need to regularly monitor your progress while you are taking this medication. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it could cause dangerous side effects.
