Gardasil 9 can protect girls and women between the ages of nine and 45 years old against cervical cancer, vulvar and vaginal cancers, head and neck cancers, anal cancer, precancerous cervical, vulvar, vaginal and anal lesions, and genital warts.
Gardasil 9 is also used to protect boys and men between the ages of nine through 45 years of age from anal cancer, head and neck cancers, precancerous anal lesions, and genital warts. These diseases are most often caused by nine types of the human papillomavirus. Gardasil 9 only protects you from nine types of HPV: Types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58. Gardasil 9 does not cause HPV or any of the above-mentioned diseases.
HPV is transmitted through sexual contact or intimate skin-to-skin contact. These common infections affect most people at some point in their lives. Most of these infections resolve on their own within several years, but sometimes, they last longer and can cause cancers later on.
