What is the brand name of Fluocinonide?

Fluocinonide is a generic prescription drug. Brand-name versions of this medication include Vanos and Lidex.

What is Fluocinonide?

Fluocinonide is an FDA-approved generic prescription medication used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as dermatitis, allergies, rash, and eczema. This medication belongs to a group of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works by affecting substances in the body that cause swelling and inflammation. Fluocinonide reduces swelling, itching, and redness that may occur in patients who are suffering from these conditions.

Fluocinonide is meant for use on the skin only. Do not use this medication on your face, groin, or underarm unless advised to do so by your physician. Wash and dry the affected area of your body before using this medication. Once dry, apply a thin film of Fluocinonide onto the affected area and gently rub. This medication is usually used once or twice daily. Do not wrap, cover, or bandage the treated area unless instructed to do so by your doctor.

Wash your hands after you have finished applying this medication. Avoid getting this medication in your eyes. If you accidentally get this medication into your eyes, ears, or nose, then you should rinse thoroughly with water and contact your doctor right away. Do not use Fluocinonide for more than 2 weeks unless instructed by your doctor.

What are the side effects of Fluocinonide?

Common side effects resulting from the use of this medication may include itching, burning, dryness, or irritation. These effects usually occur when you first begin using this medication and typically go away as your body adjusts to treatment. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any of these effects.

In some rare cases, this medication may be absorbed from the skin and into your bloodstream. This can lead to an excess of the level of corticosteroid in your body. This may most likely occur in children and in patients who use this medication for a long time or in large doses. Tell your doctor immediately if you notice extreme weakness or tiredness, increased thirst, frequent urination, dizziness, a fast or pounding heartbeat, or vision problems.

Speak with your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice on the risks and benefits involved with using Fluocinonide as this is not a complete list of side effects.
