What is Latisse?

Latisse is a brand-name drug that contains bimatoprost. This medication acts as a prostaglandin analog, although the exact way in which it helps promote eyelash growth is not completely understood. Latisse is prescribed for hypotrichosis, or inadequate eyelash growth. Bimatoprost is also used to treat glaucoma and ocular hypertension (high pressure in the eyes). It helps increase the outflow of fluid from the eye. 

Latisse topical solution is only available in a 0.03% strength. Follow your doctor's instructions for dosage and use of this medication.

What are the side effects of Latisse?

The most common side effects of Latisse are itching, eye irritation, increased blood vessels in the eye (hyperemia), and hyperpigmentation (or discoloration) of the iris or skin around the eye. Other side effects include dry eyes and redness around the eyes. Consult a healthcare provider if side effects develop, persist, or worsen.  

Serious side effects of Latisse include changes in vision or infection after touching the tip of the applicator directly to the surface of the eye. Tell your doctor if you have a history of eye pressure problems before using Latisse.
