What is Delzicol?

Delzicol is an FDA-approved prescription medication used to treat certain bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis. It helps to reduce symptoms such as rectal bleeding, stomach pain, and diarrhea. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as aminosalicylates. It works by reducing swelling in the colon.

Delzicol usually comes in the form of an oral, delayed-release capsule and can be taken with or without food. You should only use dosages that have been approved by your doctor. If to be used by children, your doctor may also take into account their weight.

You should use this medication consistently to gain the most benefit. The best way to go about doing this is to take it at the same time each day. Before you take Delzicol, review your medical history and medications (including Rx and OTC drugs, vitamins, and supplements) with your provider. Tell your doctor about any allergies to medications. You should not take Delzicol if you are allergic to aspirin, mesalamine, sulfasalazine, or salicylates. Delzicol can make you more sensitive to the sun. Avoid sunlight and tanning beds.
