What is Alomide?
Alomide is a generic prescription eye drops medication that treats the eye discomfort, swelling, and itchiness caused by allergies. The active ingredient in Alomide, lodoxamide, belongs to a class of drugs called mast cell stabilizers. Mast cells are triggered in an allergic reaction to produce and release histamines, the chemicals that directly cause allergy symptoms: swelling, itching, and irritation. Alomide shuts down the production of histamines in the mast cells near the surface of the eye.
