How much does Verzenio cost with insurance?

The copay cost of Verzenio will depend on your insurance plan. You may want to contact your insurance provider to determine the exact costs you might pay. You can also consider asking your pharmacist to compare your Verzenio insurance copay to a SingleCare Verzenio coupon. In some cases, a SingleCare card may offer more savings on prescription drugs than your insurance coverage.

Does Medicare cover Verzenio and how much does it cost?

Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D prescription drug insurance plans usually provide coverage for Verzenio, but the copay may vary. You can contact your Medicare plan to determine whether your prescription treatment costs are covered. If you don't have coverage for Verzenio or the copay is high, a SingleCare Verzenio may be a potential way to save money and receive a discounted price. With SingleCare, the price of Verzenio is $15,103.14 for 56, 150mg Tablet.

Is there a generic of Verzenio?

Verzenio is a brand-name prescription drug containing the active ingredient, abemaciclib. A generic version is not available at this time.

What is Verzenio?

Verzenio is a brand-name drug used alone or in combination with other drugs to treat advanced or metastatic breast cancer. Advanced breast cancer is cancer that’s at high risk of spreading to the rest of the body, and metastatic breast cancer is cancer that has spread to the rest of the body. The active ingredient in Verzenio, abemaciclib, belongs to a class of anti-cancer drugs called kinase inhibitors. Abemaciclib works by blocking proteins on the surface of the cancer cells that signal the cancer cell to divide and produce more cells.

The medication is effective for breast cancers that are hormone receptor-positive (HR+), which means the cancer cells have proteins that respond to hormones that promote cancer cell growth. However, it’s not effective for cases of breast cancer that are negative for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2-), meaning the cancer cells lack the protein that typically signals them to multiply.

Verzenio is taken as a tablet twice daily until there is sufficient progress made against cancer or until the patient can no longer safely take Verzenio.

What are the side effects of Verzenio?

Like other medications, Verzenio may cause negative side effects. The most common side effects of Verzenio include:

  • Fatigue

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Decreased appetite

  • Headache

  • Hair thinning

  • Stomach pain

  • Infections

  • Low platelet counts

  • Low white blood cell counts

Serious adverse effects are possible, such as severe diarrhea, severe inflammation of the lungs, liver problems, allergic reactions, and blood clots. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience trouble breathing or chest pain. For a complete list of side effects, precautions, and potential interactions, consult a healthcare provider or pharmacist.

How much longer do you live with Verzenio?

The effects of Verzenio on life expectancy may vary among patients and depend on several factors, including the stage and type of breast cancer, overall health, and how the cancer responds to the treatment. Clinical trials have shown that Verzenio, especially when used in combination with a hormone therapy called fulvestrant, can delay the progression of cancer and extend median survival to 46.7 months compared to 37.3 months with fulvestrant alone.

When will Verzenio have a generic?

The availability of a generic version of Verzenio depends on various factors, including patents and exclusivity rights. Currently, Verzenio is a patented medication developed by Eli Lilly and Company, and a generic version may not be available until the patent expires in 2029. Consult a healthcare provider for alternative treatment options.
