What is Savaysa?

Savaysa is a prescription drug used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in people with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, or atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem. This drug is also used for treating deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the veins of the legs) and pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs) after five to ten days of initial treatment with an injectable anticoagulant medicine.

As an anticoagulant, or blood thinner, Savaysa works by interfering with the clotting process in the blood. Specifically, Savaysa is a Factor Xa inhibitor that blocks the Factor Xa protein, an essential part of the blood clotting process.

Before taking this drug, tell your doctor if you have a liver or kidney condition, bleeding issues, or an artificial heart valve. Savaysa should only be taken if you are not breastfeeding. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as this drug may cause harmful effects to an unborn baby.

Once this drug has been prescribed for your condition, use it exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on the prescription label and review the medication guide or instruction sheet that comes with the medication.

Contact your healthcare professional if you experience side effects while taking Savaysa.

You may also experience other side effects or drug interactions not listed above as this is not a complete list. Consult with your healthcare provider for additional information and medical advice on all the risks and benefits involved with using Savaysa.
