Rayos is a brand-name corticosteroid. Prednisone delayed-release is the ingredient of Rayos, but there is no generic version available at this time.
Rayos is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation and it also suppresses your body's immune system. Rayos is used to treat a number of medical conditions including certain allergic, dermatologic, gastrointestinal, hematologic, ophthalmologic, nervous system, renal, respiratory, rheumatologic, specific infectious diseases or conditions. It can also be used after organ transplantation, as well as for the treatment of certain endocrine conditions. Rayos is also used in the treatment of acute leukemia and aggressive lymphomas. Rayos is used by children and adults, although doses can vary based on age and the condition you are using this medication to treat.
Do not use Rayos if you are allergic to prednisone. Avoid people who are sick or may have infections while you are taking Rayos.
Before using Rayos tell your doctor about other medical conditions you may have, especially if you have an infection. Rayos can weaken your immune system which could cause your infection to worsen. If you have a history of heart problems, high blood pressure, glaucoma or cataracts, diabetes, an underactive thyroid, liver disease, herpes infection of the eye, stomach ulcers, or mental illness or psychosis, you should inform your doctor prior to taking Rayos. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while taking Rayos, tell your doctor right away.
You also need to provide your doctor with a list of the medications you are using including all prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements. This list will allow your doctor to better treat your condition and will reduce your risk of drug interactions and adverse effects.
You should only use Rayos how it was prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not take more or less than your prescribed dose for longer than is required. Do not suddenly stop taking Rayos without first seeking medical advice from your healthcare provider. Your provider will give you a tapering schedule so that you can stop taking Rayos over a period of time, which reduces the risk of problems. Children who are using Rayos for long-term treatment need to be monitored for slowed growth or development.
Common side effects of Rayos include weight gain, appetite changes, nausea, muscle or joint pain, weakness, changes in mood, trouble sleeping, changes in your menstrual cycle, dizziness, headache, slow healing wounds, acne, and increased sweating.
If you have muscle pain or weakness, blurred vision, severe depression, irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, swelling, rapid weight gain, or you are coughing up blood, you should call your doctor right away.
Allergic reactions to Rayos are rare. If you have hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling around the face, lips, tongue, or throat, get emergency medical help right away.
This is not a complete list of side effects. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice regarding other possible side effects or drug interactions. You can report negative side effects to the FDA.
