Quetiapine Fumarate is a generic prescription neuroleptic–also called an antipsychotic or major tranquilizer–reduces schizophrenia symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions, and helps to stabilize mania (overexcitement) in bipolar patients. Quetiapine Fumarate works by balancing two chemicals, dopamine, and serotonin, responsible for transmitting nerve signals in the brain. This slows down the brain, reduces disorganized brain activity, and at the same time relieves negative symptoms, such as depression and inability to focus. On average, Quetiapine Fumarate costs $154.49 for 30, 100MG Tablet but you will pay $6.63 for 30, 100mg Tablet of generic Quetiapine Fumarate with a free SingleCare coupon.

Quetiapine Fumarate is a generic prescription antipsychotic drug that is primarily used to reduce the symptoms of schizophrenia, such as hallucinations (false perceptions), delusions (false beliefs), disorganized thoughts, and disorganized speech. Quetiapine Fumarate is also commonly prescribed to patients with bipolar (manic-depressive) disorder to manage mania, which is an overexcited state characterized by heightened activity, delusions, euphoria, and risky behaviors.
In both conditions, signals in the brain are overexcited and disorganized. The theory is that the brain is overproducing a chemical, dopamine, in one part of the brain, causing the brain to be overactive and disorganized. At the same time, many of the negative symptoms of schizophrenia, such as lack of emotion, lack of interest in the world, lack of pleasure, apathy, and lack of motivation, are caused by an imbalance in another chemical in the brain, serotonin.
Quetiapine Fumarate works by rebalancing these two chemicals, dopamine, and serotonin, in the brain. Both are important chemicals that help transmit most nerve signals in the brain. Rebalancing dopamine slows down overexcited and disorganized activity in the brain. Thoughts, perceptions, and movement become more organized. Rebalancing serotonin helps to reduce the negative symptoms of schizophrenia and improve the patient's experience of the world.
Quetiapine Fumarate comes in both immediate-release and extended-release forms.
Common side effects of Quetiapine Fumarate are dry mouth, drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, muscle stiffness, headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, increased appetite, weight gain, and trouble sleeping. More serious but less common side effects include severe muscle stiffness, liver problems, cataracts, high blood pressure, and low white blood cell counts. Long-term continual use of Quetiapine Fumarate may cause tardive dyskinesia (unusual twitching and involuntary movements), but this is uncommon in comparison with other antipsychotic drugs. Mental and mood changes include unusual behavior and suicidal thoughts. Allergic reactions are rare but discontinue Quetiapine Fumarate if there is any sign of an allergic reaction, such as hives, facial swelling, or difficulty breathing. This is not a complete list of side effects that may occur. Consult with your physician about any concerns you may have with side effects.
