Edex is a brand-name prescription drug. There are no generic versions of Edex available at the moment.
Edex is a penile injection that is used to treat erectile dysfunction that is caused by medical conditions that affect the nerves or blood vessels, emotions, or a combination of these factors.
Edex works by relaxing the muscles and opening the blood vessels in the penis that produce an erection. It also allows the penis to expand and trap blood so it can become erect.
Edex is not meant to be used by women or children.
Men with penile implants, severe penile curvature, or those for whom sexual activity is not advised should not use this medication. Do not use Edex (alprostadil for injection) if you are allergic to any part of this medication. Men who have conditions that might result in long-lasting erections, such as sickle cell anemia or sickle cell trait, leukemia, or multiple myeloma should not use this erectile dysfunction medication.
Before you using Edex, you should tell your healthcare provider about other medical conditions you may have and about all the medications you are using, including all prescription medications and over-the-counter medications. You should also ensure you or your partner are fully trained in the proper injection technique before you use Edex at home.
Only use Edex as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use more than the prescribed dose of Edex. Do not use this medication more than three times a week. Injections should be given at least 24 hours apart. If you find that your erection lasts for more than one hour or that you are not achieving an erection sufficient for sexual activity after administering the Edex vaccine call your doctor to see if you may need a dose adjustment. Only your doctor can make adjustments to your dose.
Common side effects include mild to moderate pain during injection. Your erection may also be associated with a painful sensation.
If you have an erection six hours after injection, severe pain, or if you notice any redness, lumps, swelling, or curvature of your erect penis, you should call your doctor immediately.
This is not a complete list of side effects. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice regarding other possible side effects or drug interactions.
