What is Jentadueto?

Jentadueto is an FDA-approved prescription drug used to treat patients with Type 2 diabetes. It contains a combination of linagliptin and metformin hydrochloride and is used along with a proper diet and exercise program to help control blood sugar levels.

Maintaining blood sugar control is especially important for diabetics in order to prevent blindness, kidney damage, and loss of limbs. Improved control of diabetes may also reduce the risk of a stroke or heart failure.

Note: Jentadueto is not meant as a treatment for Type 1 diabetes.

Jentadueto works by increasing the production of substances in the body known as incretins. Incretins are responsible for controlling blood sugar by increasing the release of insulin, especially after a meal. It also reduces the amount of sugar that is made by your liver. This medication works to restore your body's appropriate response to insulin so that blood sugar is quickly converted to energy and high blood sugar levels are reduced.

Check with your healthcare provider to see if Jentadueto is right for you or if Jentadueto XR (the extended-release version of Jentadueto) may be more suitable for your condition.

What are the side effects of Jentadueto?

The use of Jentadueto may cause some unwanted side effects. Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, joint pain, or a metallic taste in the mouth may occur. If any of these side effects are persistent or worsen, promptly contact your doctor or pharmacist for medical advice.

Side effects that relate to the stomach and occur after the first few days of your treatment may be a sign that you're at risk of lactic acidosis. Jentadueto does not usually cause low blood sugar, but it may occur if this medication is prescribed with other diabetic medications. Patients with kidney disease, liver disease, or who suffer from alcoholism are at the highest risk of developing lactic acidosis.

This is not a complete list of side effects so do check with your healthcare provider to learn more about this medication and other possible side effects before use.
