Hydroxyurea is an FDA approved generic prescription drug that is used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia, squamous cell cancer of the head and neck, a skin cancer called melanoma, and sickle cell anemia. Hydroxyurea blocks the ability of cancer cells to produce or use DNA, so they eventually die off without producing new cancer cells. Cancer and chemotherapy can be complicated subjects, so our FAQs section has more information about Hydroxyurea, how it works, possible side effects, how much Hydroxyurea costs, and how you can save money on your Hydroxyurea prescription. Hydroxyurea can cost an average cash price of $92.54 at full price. A SingleCare Hydroxyurea coupon could reduce that total cost to $13.75 for 60, 500mg Capsule.
Our price history metrics are calculated from aggregate prescription data that we receive from all participating pharmacies. This chart updates daily to show new price fluctuations. If a data point is missing from the chart, it is because we do not have enough data to produce a reliable figure.

The pharmacy cost of Hydroxyurea can be around $92.54. That same prescription could cost $13.75 for 60, 500mg Capsule with a SingleCare savings card, which you can use at major pharmacies throughout the country.
The copay cost of Hydroxyurea will vary and will depend on your insurance plan as well as the dosage prescribed. With a SingleCare prescription discount card, Hydroxyurea costs $13.75 for 60, 500mg Capsule. The retail price with a free coupon from SingleCare may be cheaper than the cost with insurance.
Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D prescription drug insurance plans usually provide coverage for Hydroxyurea, but the brand-name version of Hydroxyurea, Hydrea, usually is not. If you don't have coverage for Hydroxyurea, consider using a SingleCare Hydroxyurea coupon for your prescription. With SingleCare, the price of Hydroxyurea is $13.75 for 60, 500mg Capsule.
Hydroxyurea is a generic prescription alternative to the brand-name drug, Hydrea. Generic Hydroxyurea is manufactured by Par, Barr, and Leading Pharma. If you have any questions about Hydrea, make sure you search the SingleCare website or app for information and valuable savings coupons.
Hydroxyurea is a generic prescription drug that is used to treat a certain type of leukemia (chronic myeloid leukemia), head and neck cancers, and melanoma (cancer of pigment-creating cells in the skin, eye, or intestines). It is sometimes used off-label for recurrent or inoperable ovarian cancer.
Hydroxyurea blocks the ability of cancer cells to create DNA, so they eventually die off without producing new cancer cells. In addition, Hydroxyurea prevents cancer cells from repairing DNA damage caused by radiation therapy or chemotherapy, making it less likely for cancer cells to rebound from those therapies.
Hydroxyurea is also used to treat sickle cell anemia, a genetic disorder in which the body makes an irregular form of hemoglobin, the molecule that carries oxygen in the red blood cells. This irregular form of hemoglobin causes red blood cells to become misshapen into a sickle-like shape. These misshapen red blood cells carry less oxygen and block other red blood cells. Low oxygen damages the nerves and organs throughout the body.
Hydroxyurea promotes the production of the correct form of hemoglobin, called fetal hemoglobin. With more fetal hemoglobin, red blood cells are less likely to become distorted into a sickle shape and cause problems with oxygen transportation.
Hydroxyurea is taken as a capsule. Dosage is based on body weight.
Common side effects of Hydroxyurea include, but are not limited to, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, upset stomach, hair loss, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, and flu-like symptoms. Other side effects of Hydroxyurea include decreased white blood cell counts, decreased reticulocyte counts, and decreased platelet counts. Tell your doctor if you experience serious side effects, or side effects persist or worsen.
Allergic reactions are rare. Watch for important signs of an allergic reaction, including swelling, itching, or rash, and talk to your doctor if you experience what you believe to be an allergic reaction.
Consult your healthcare provider for other possible side effects, warnings, precautions, drug information, and medical advice before starting treatment with Hydroxyurea.
