Harvoni is manufactured by Gilead Sciences Inc. Ledipasvir-sofosbuvir is the generic version of Harvoni.

What is Harvoni?

Harvoni is a prescription drug that combines ledipasvir and sofosbuvir to treat chronic Hepatitis C. Hepatitis C (hep C, HCV) is infection and inflammation of the liver caused by infection, usually through contaminated shared needles, or rarely hemodialysis (if the facility does not carefully follow infection control procedures). This virus can cause serious liver problems such as scarring (cirrhosis), liver failure, or liver cancer.

Harvoni works by reducing the amount of hepatitis C virus in your body, which in turn helps your immune system fight the infection and may help your liver recover.

Harvoni is often used in combination with ribavirin in certain patients to treat HCV. It can also be used in patients with HIV.

Harvoni treats specific genotypes of hepatitis C, and only in certain people. To ensure this drug is right for you, consult with your healthcare provider who will assess your condition and determine if you are eligible to use this drug.

What are the side effects of Harvoni?

Common side effects of Harvoni include cough, diarrhea, headache, irritability, lack or loss of strength, muscle pain, nausea, trouble sleeping.

Less common side effects can include a feeling of discouragement, dizziness, feeling sad or empty, lack of appetite, loss of interest or pleasure, and trouble concentrating.

Serious allergic reaction to this drug is very unlikely. However, you should seek medical attention right away if you notice any symptoms of an allergic reaction—these can include rashes, itching, swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.

This is not a complete list of possible side effects, so speak to your healthcare provider for medical advice on all possible side effects. You are also encouraged to report side effects to the FDA.
