What is Gralise?

Gralise is an FDA-approved prescription medication used to relieve pain associated with postherpetic neuralgia. Postherpetic neuralgia is a lasting nerve pain that lingers after the shingles rash disappears. The active ingredient in Gralise is gabapentin. It belongs to a class of drugs known as anti-seizure or anticonvulsant drugs. These drugs work by altering electrical activity in the brain and influencing the activity of chemicals known as neurotransmitters, which transfer messages between nerve cells. Gralise is not interchangeable with other gabapentin products.

Gralise comes in the form of an oral extended-release tablet and should only be taken as advised by your healthcare provider. During the first few weeks of treatment, your healthcare provider may start you off on a low dose and gradually increase it so your body can adjust to the medication. When you stop taking Gralise, your healthcare provider will instruct you to stop taking the medication slowly.
