What is the brand name of Irbesartan?

Irbesartan is manufactured by multiple pharmaceutical companies including Amneal Pharmaceuticals LLC, Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Roxane Laboratories, Inc., and others. Irbesartan is sold under the brand name Avapro.

What is Irbesartan?

Irbesartan is used to treat high blood pressure and it also helps to protect the kidneys from damage caused by Type 2 diabetes. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Irbesartan belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) and works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily.

If you have diabetes, you should avoid taking aliskiren with your Irbesartan. Before taking this drug you should let your doctor know if you have kidney disease, liver disease, congestive heart failure, or if you are dehydrated. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant do not use Irbesartan as it may harm your unborn baby or even cause death. Before taking Irbesartan, review your medical conditions and medication list (including Rx drugs, OTC medicines, vitamins, and supplements) with your doctor.

What are the side effects of Irbesartan?

Common side effects of Irbesartan include high potassium levels, dizziness, cough, low blood sugar, diarrhea, heartburn, upset stomach, or tired feeling. If you experience a light-headed feeling, little or no urination; swelling, rapid weight gain, confusion, loss of appetite, vomiting, pain in your side or lower back then you should contact your doctor or healthcare immediately.

In rare cases, Irbesartan can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue which then causes kidney failure. Call your doctor right away if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness especially if you also have a fever, unusual tiredness, and dark-colored urine.

Though an allergic reaction is rare, you should be cognizant of the signs associated with allergic reactions. These signs can include hives; difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. If these symptoms occur, get emergency medical attention.

There are other side effects not mentioned here that can occur while using Irbesartan. Get medical advice from your healthcare professional for additional information on possible side effects or drug interactions. You can report side effects to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
